Your Yamba, NSW Caravan and Camping Itinerary

Looking for a family-friendly spot to take the caravan along the North East NSW coast? Yamba is a stunning coastal town known for fishing, surfing, and scenic coastal walks—and it’s packed with unique and kid-friendly places to camp!
We made the 5-hour trip from Newcastle to Yamba at 2 a.m. over the Easter long weekend. With two children under 4, it felt like the best strategy to tackle the drive in one go. Our youngest, Allie, slept almost the entire way, while Max was far too excited to sleep for more than an hour—but thankfully, the car ride was calm!
Here are the places we stayed, cost breakdown and what we thought:
1. The Peach Farm (Hipcamp)- 2 Nights

This off-grid Hipcamp gem is just 15 minutes from town and perfect for a peaceful escape. You can either stay overnight or just come for a day visit!
Highlights:
• A spacious campsite next to the dam
• Beautiful sunrises and sunsets
• Activities including:
– Animals: rabbits, alpacas, peacocks, geese, ducks, donkeys and goats
– Kayaks: free to use on the dam
– Fire Pits (fire wood and a camp oven available ion request for an extra fee)
– Outdoor baths: Free cold baths by the dam or upgrade to a warm relaxing bath setup for $30, complete with essential oils, chocolates, candles, and fresh farm fruit
• Kids playground
There’s also a glamping dome overlooking the dam if camping isn’t your thing.
$98.42 per night (the cheapest of all our stays)

⸻
2. Saltwater Big 4 Caravan Park, Yamba- 3 Nights

A brand new caravan park that opened in November 2024, featuring a huge Bali-style pool—the largest in the Big4 holiday park network- just 10 minutes from Yamba.
Highlights:
• Spacious camping sites (A lady actually came up to me and asked If she was on the correct site because it was so big she wasn’t sure if it was all hers)
• Waterslide
• Hot spa
• Swim-up bar
• Splash park!
• Lounge areas
• A movie screen with a live-streaming underwater camera playing kid-friendly films from 4 p.m. daily
• Kids club activities
• Playground
• Jumping pillow
• Cart hire
• Pizza van was there throughout the Easter holidays
Pro tip – if you request a non powered site you are likely to back right onto the pool or splash park area.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend you bring a beach cart, bikes or a pram as walking from camp to the pool can be a bit of a trek.
And, get yourself a frozen mango daiquiri from the swim up bar for $20!
$212 per night- The most we have EVER spent for one night at a caravan park.

3. Blue Dolphin NRMA Holiday Park, Yamba- 3 Nights
Located in town and on the river, this park has everything you could want for a family stay and the best thing is that you don’t even have to leave the caravan park if you don’t want to.
Highlights:
• Indoor playground (under 5’s area)
• Rock climbing wall
• 2 pools (one with a water slide)
• Toddler pool with waterslide
• Waterpark
• Jumping pillow
• Putt putt golf
• 2 outdoor playgrounds
• Live music on the weekends
• School holiday kids activities
• Food truck that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner
$132.50 per night (we saved $26 for being an NRMA member)
For both Saltwater Big4 and Blue Dolphin, the pools were not heated so I recommend visiting in the warmer months if you plan on making the most of the pools (and swim up bars).

Our Favourite Stay:
The Peach Farm had to be our favourite out of the 3 camps in Yamba. Even though it was less “fancy”, the relaxed vibe was unbeatable in our eyes. Max was able to roast marshmallows and the kids could run around freely. The dam and farm animals kept both kids entertained and being only 1 minute from the freeway made it easy to pull up stumps after a long drive.

We will definitely be back and next time I’m booking another hot bath with a good book and some kid free time!
Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know about these camping spots in the comments.
